Regarding recent announcements, The Guardian has seen the writing on the walls for hard drives.
The boot-up time for Windows XP is said to be 25% to 50% faster and an SSD is up to 60% lighter than a comparable 1.8in hard drive. It's also more robust - Samsung claims that the SSD can withstand deceleration forces (that is, being dropped) double what would cripple a standard hard drive. It uses far less power (0.5W when busy, compared to a hard drive's 2W) - significant, since hard drives use 10% to 20% of a laptop's battery power. And finally, the lack of moving parts means Samsung's SSD-enabled PC can operate in complete silence.
There's a lot to look forward to in power-saving. Lighter, faster, more efficient flash drives. Smaller, faster, more effecient processors, like the VIA C7-M ULV coupled with highly integrated chipsets like the VIA VX700. Brighter, more efficient displays like cold cathode based LCD screens. Ubiquitous, high speed connectivity through Wimax, EVDO, or Sprint Edge. A convergance of these technologies in the UMPC will push it into the limelight.

I'm not sure if the Q1b is using the OLED display or not. All I know is that they claim the new screen is 30% brighter without an increase in power consumption.
I'll let you know when more details are released about the Q1b.

SSD drives is the future. The Q1b uses a led backlight which makes it both brighter and takes less power than the old technology they used in the regular Q1s.
