The Walletino UMPC

On Tuesday, UML introduced a very manly UMPC concept for high-powered businessman and we promised the next one would be for the modern woman. The Walletino is just the UMPC to keep you connected with your friends and family while out on the town. Designed to look just like that wallet you have stuffed full of money and credit cards, it hides a little secret. Open it up to find a large, bright LCD screen and a fully functioning PC.

While not every woman has a need for an online powder room, The Walletino can offer storage for your credit cards, your cash, business cards, a mirror or whatever you find absolutely essential. However, we think you'll agree that having an online price checking tool in your purse could save you and your family a lot of money. Imagine going to the store, seeing an item you've always wanted on sale for 15% off. The temptation is overwhelming, so you Google it and see how much it would cost elsewhere only to discover... you can buy it at a shop down the street for 50% less.

Want to share pictures from last weekend's cocktail party? Pull out your Walletino browse to your Flickr gallery and show your friends wherever you are.

Did your friend just take a great picture of you with the camera on her phone? Or perhaps with that chunky digital camera she's been lugging around? Just connect to them wirelessly or plug them into your UMPC and copy them on the spot. No more going home and waiting a few days to see if she's e-mailed them to you.

The Walletino brings the modern conveniences of an entire laptop and places it discreetly into your purse in the shape of a wallet. If only the rest of the things in your life were so simple.

Stick around, next week we've got another concept for the office worker, and this time it's modular!

Thanks for thinking of us girls, but there are a couple of things that might need to be changed to bring it to market.

First, choice of cosmetics are a pretty personal issue and they come in different sizes in different brands, while it looks like you have a built-in box for compact powders. It's not practical to buy a new UMPC everytime you need a new color or expect that your brand will have a co-marketing agreement with the UMPC OEM. So while it's a great idea there would need to be enough room to fit off-the-shelf cosmetics in.

Second, a modern woman needs condoms along at all times, but lots of guys want to feel like they're special and you don't want them to see how many condoms you have in stock. Capiche? Also, lots of them are cheap and want change back after they pay you, so there needs to be a place for some cash.

With those features, every lady will want one, I'm sure!

You can use the UMPC as a phone, just put on your bluetooth headset and make regular cell calls or VOIP calls to your hearts content.

As far as keys are concerned... hmm that is a tough one!

Personally, I don't waste my money on makeup. I'd rather have something that'd be useful in my tech support job. Easy access to the ethernet port (for testing ethernet cables or jacks) and USB ports (in case I need to download drivers or malware tools onto a flash drive to transfer to a sick PC) would be needed. Discreet is ok, since I'm often called out at night. I'm glad the concept case doesn't have flowers on it.

I like the concept, however the gimmick is a little too gimmicky. It's nice that you want to target female users, so few pc companies do, but I would do away with make-up storage it's patronizing to say the least and women who would go so far as to buy a personal PC that small and no doubt expensive, will not want eyeshadow powder smeared into crevices in their keyboard or lipgloss on their screen. Make-up applied with any degree of skill is done when you leave home and touched-up on the go as needed (lipstick and powder compact), that stuff will get everywhere in that wallet eventually I don't care how neat you are. If you just have to be cute about it :roll , offer more color choices for the wallet covering. Other than that, you're on to something. ;)
