The Butler UMPC

In keeping with the modular theme, today UML is introducing The Butler, an ultra mobile device that helps you manage your household. It's slim and unique form factor is perfectly suited for "hanging" around the house. This handy little device may soon become your closest companion, always with you wether you're watching a movie, making dinner, out grocery shopping, or getting your hair done.

The Butler may not be wearing a tuxedo, but you may find it more helpful than the kind that does. The great thing about this ultra mobile device is that it brings complete control of your entire home into your hands and you don't have to leave it behind when you leave the house.

The modular design of The Butler allows you to add additional functionality to your ultra mobile device. Perhaps you'd like to make a phone call, chat on your webcam, or catch an episode of 24, attach the microphone/speaker/camera module and you're good to go. Don't need all those things? Leave 'em at home while you're out and about!

Perhaps you're wondering how this ultra mobile device fits in with your household. It's completely integrated with all aspects of your home, from the temperature controls to the lighting. You can control your home entertainment center, watch movies or TV programs, turn up the stereo, all without getting up or trying to figure out which remote controls which box. Check on your sleeping baby, preheat the oven, even send an SMS to your student on his way home from soccer practice all from one handy little device, The Butler.

Additional modules for The Butler allow you to hang it up on a peg in your kitchen, laundry room, or bathroom. With no module installed you can simply hang it over a towel rack or prop it up on the table in front of you. Imagine having complete control of your household at arms reach, no matter what you are doing.

Finally, the printer module let's you save time, just write one note and print out four copies. Not only that, but you can e-mail your handwritten notes or print out an e-mail that someone sent to you. Did your friend send you a great recipe for brownies? Want to share it with Jane who's visiting with you now and also her best friend Claire? Print out a copy for Jane and e-mail one on to Claire in just two minutes without having to get up. The Butler has made information distribution a snap.

It's hard to begin describing all of the posibilities that this type of ultra mobile device makes possible. Needless to say, The Butler will be an indespensible tool in the management of households to come.

Coming up next, the ultra mobile device you'll want to have on your next vacation!

It looks very much like an Origami in portrait mode. Future belongs to Origamis in the USA. (2comfuture.spaces.live.com)

Stylish, unique, very attractive and I adore the printing functionality. I can foresee a day when this device will be a necessity in many households and not just as a multimedia controller.

Nice design, I think the buttons need work to make it great, however. (text and font font look like an afterthought, whats with the fullstops?)

I can't believe they showed a picture of the Hippy Hill in the Haight Ashbury area of Golden Gate park, and related it to tech-gadgetry.

So how exactly can the Butler help the dancing Hippies in the drum circle, or the SF weed smokers. I bet all of the eco-punks that sleep over there and beg change in front of the McDonalds can't wait to get a Butler, so they can sell it for drugs.
