Hot on the heels of his AMtek T770 review, Steve Paine has posted a review of the Medion UMPC. Here's a quote from the review:
Firstly, and very importantly, VIA appear to have done a good job with the new VX700 / UniChrome video drivers. Windows Media player and Origami experience worked well. The best we've seen on a 'Vista on VIA' device yet. This bodes well for the OQO and T770 and I guess all future VIA devices. Media Center was about the only thing that didn't perform and to be honest, I'm not surprised. Media Center is a real heavyweight program. After installing a few drivers, Xvid at 2mbps was perfect through the Windows Media Player - more than enough quality for the 6.5" screen.
It's interesting that Intel is talking so big about improving efficiency but there just aren't many intel-based devices out there. Looking at Steve's recent coverage, we can see not one or two, but three different VIA-based design wins that all run Vista and range from economical PC to drool-worthy vanity PC. It's clear that VIA isn't just talking big about UMPCs, they're continuously coming out with power efficient UMPCs and working hard to get the platform right.
