OQO & owner survive motorcycle spill

I'm sure some of you may be wondering where I've been the last two days, unfortunately I wasn't off on a romantic holiday. Monday night I was riding my motorcycle home from work when a taxi made a right turn from the left lane in front of me. I laid the bike down and slid quite a ways, scraping off a bunch of skin. I injured my foot pretty bad so I haven't been able to get out of the house. Luckily both my friend and my OQO were uninjured in the fall. My friend walked away with a few scrapes and minor bruises and my OQO was still in standby.

The accident happened on Monday night, the OQO was safely tucked away inside of my bag and then inside of a compartment of my motorcycle. I'm using the extended battery and when I brought it out of standby this morning (Wednesday morning) it shows 45% remaining on the battery indicator. I just want to bring this up because on Monday I watched another episode of Coffee with ThoughtFix where he wishes that UMPCs could have the same type of instant on that phones do. ThoughtFix dreamed of a standby mode that you could put a UMPC in for a few hours and still have a few hours of work time. I think this is already a reality, but just on a few ultra mobile devices.

One of the requirements of Windows Vista is that the device must go into and come out of standby within 2 seconds. This means that all UMPCs that are officially Vista capable (like the OQO model 02) will go into and come out of standby in less than 2 seconds. I'd say 2 seconds is pretty much instant on, and the power drain in standby is really, really low. I don't have any figures on the power drain yet, but about 40 hours on standby on the OQO's extended battery taking only 50%. We're looking at 80 hours of standby time, not bad.

Ouch! I remember what it feels like to slide down the road with a motorbike. Get well soon.
