OQO model 02 SSD vs HDD Performance

Check out the test results that Rob from GottaBeMobile got comparing the OQO model 02's SSD against the standard 1.8" hard disk drive. With min, max, and average transfer rates getting over a 100% boost and seek times over 60 times faster. Of course there's got to be a trade-off there somewhere, and if you look at the CPU utilization, you can see that the processor has to work just a bit harder to handle all of that data. Increased speed isn't the only benefit to switching to SSD storage, SSD is silent, generates less heat, and consumes less power leading to a quieter, cooler device that runs longer. Rob's little test showed that after running the HD performance tests the OQO model 02 with the SSD had 5 hours 30 minutes left on it's battery, while the one with the traditional hard drive had only 4 hours 45 minutes left. That's a 45 minute difference after a short hard-drive intensive test.
