HTC's ship date shifting

It looks like HTC is having a bit of trouble getting the Shift out the door. This report from DigiTimes indicates that shipments of the HTC Shift will be delayed into January 2008.

Problems related to the integration of HTC Shift's hardware and software caused the delay, said the sources, noting that the Shift will run on both Microsoft's Windows Vista and Windows Mobile.

It seems like the Shift went from hot to meh in short order. I don't know what went wrong with it, but I think it lost a lot of it's appeal when it was revealed to have rather poor battery life. I hope the Shift will ship soon as I think it's a really innovative device that can increase peoples' awareness of the UMPC platform.

Let's see if the delay means that HTC is doing something about the battery life - or the too limited SnapVue functionality (according to the user guide it cannot sync with the Vista part)- or if we'll have to wait for Shift II to see those "issues" addressed.

Btw.: I believe the Shift is overall one of the best UMPCs so far. Possible improvements for the Shift II would be a 1024x600 native resolution, better battery life, an improved SnapVue and a HSDPA/HSUPA/GSM voice enabled chipset instead of just data capability
