HP UMPC 2133

No sooner did I go home than Engadget posted up photos of the new HP UMPC. I was hoping for a 9" screen and they did me one better by bumping the resolution up to 1366x766. There wasn't an option for HSDPA listed, but I can always plug in my USB HSDPA modem until they get around to providing that option. This little PC looks great, I can't wait to hear more about it.

Will it use VIA CN or Intel Penryn?

Neither. Silverthorne, with performance comparable to Pentium M at an order of magnitude lower power consumption.

It's great if this is the signal HP determines to enter the UMPC market. But it seems that Via still has a long way to go in battling with Intel's Silverthrone.

if engadget is correct, it will have a perynn chip and $630 price. I will buy it without even thinking for a minute. But will they release it in april or will i get tired or waiting and buy something else ?

As I mentioned earlier, I can't comment on what platform it is. We've all got to wait for HP to make the official announcement.

This is a big looser product. HP made a device much like their old 820 in the days of windows CE that looked like this computer. Guess what very few bought it as everyone wanted the jacket size Jornada 720. That is what Hp should have done, update the 720 with full windows using UMPC technology.

This looks more interesting that the Eee, regardless of the platform. I certainly hope that it will not have the same distribution problems as the Eee. When will we have an official announcement from HP?

@7 posts up: Looser product as opposed to a tighter product? Let's look up the dict.

I held out waiting for the macbook air only to be disappointed. What I really wanted to see is something small enough to comfortably carry around in a plane but functional enough to surf, check email, msn, powerpoint presentations etc. Ideally the battery life on these things would be 8 hours so you can literally take it with you on a flight for the whole flight. Well done HP, I'd be lining up for one.

8 hrs of battery life? Is that dog hours or human hours?

Big keyboard = good.
un-beveled flat keys = mis-types (Bad)
side mouse buttons = awkward

I'd like to know what the battery life is like on the low-end flash-memory model, as well as the start-up time with Linux system. Vista is a waste of my time when all I want is a decent word processor and web surf machine. Might still go with the Eee when the 8.9" screen model comes out.

I tested this camera for a client. I didn’t have the light running for more than 15 minutes. The battery lasted approximately 6 hours before recharging. The LCD, however, had a few dead pixels - never saw this before. Tried returning for exchange and had to put up quite a fight. Anyone else seen this? http://www.batteryfast.co.uk
