Engadget uncovered this spec list for Hewlett Packard's 2133 UMPC which seems to confirm that it will be running on the VIA Ultra Mobility Platform. Of course this is still unofficial, but it certainly looks accurate and spot on for what most people were hoping for. As you can see from the sheet the linux version with the 1.2 GHz VIA C7-M processor is coming in at $549. Tack on another $50 and you get Windows Vista Basic. The one that I've got my eye on is the 1.6 GHz version with 2 gigs of RAM and the 6 cell battery which is going to give me an awesome battery life. And the other great news is that it's supposed to be available April 7th, which is just one week away.

If I were interested in such a mini-notebook - and that might happen if I should find out that a UMPC like the HTC Shift is not for me after all - I would also go for the $749 model.
I am just wondering what the "Regional" model is all about? Aside from the larger HD, all other specs are on par or worse than the $749 model. Who would buy this? Or are they going to force some people to pick this because they live in the wrong area???

You seem to be a little slow in reacting to this rumor than your chinese language site:-)
not much comment on this, just waiting for the officially released spec and shipping models!

Since I saw this on Engadget, I've been seriously considering this. It's about the same size as the EEEPC, if I'm not mistaken, but it's got a lot more power under the hood. I too am looking at the Windows Vista Business model, but I wonder how Vista will run on this hardware.... I hope there is a way to get XP running on it!

HP will probably need to sell this cheap as this thing is way to big for a UMPC; I'd rather buy a laptop. What they need to do is shrink it down the their old HP Jornada 720 size. That would be an ideal HP UMPC but this is weak.

They all weigh over 5lbs, they can't even be considered as an UMPC! They look like great laptops, and probably at a great price, but they're sure as hell not an UMPC. With UMPC's, there will be some major sacrifices for power and storage, over tiny and convenient.

It will soon step into the market, i think. You can find some article in PCWorld.com as well as Engadget.com covering this! I'm really rexpecting to unbox one of these models.

I do not understand the hype on this thing? I can buy a Dell laptop for $329 so why would I pay more for a less powerful computer?
I would pay 2-4 times that if they could shrink it into a coat size computer as long as it has a touch type keyboard.

"Tack on another $50 and you get Windows Vista Basic."
Get? It's "Have to suffer with".
