Over at ultramobilelife.com we've been thinking a lot about the current state of UMPCs and where they might be headed in the future. Looking at the TabletKiosk eo's, the Samsung Q1b's and the DualCor cPC's it looks like UMPCs are here to stay.
What we've got in mind, however, is a new breed of specialized UMPCs. We want to take the general concept of the UMPC and push it further. We want to give these little tablets a direction, rather than let them languish in the realms of general computing like their much larger laptop brethren.
So we've set out on a journey to shape the direction of UMPCs, to find a better fit for them into our daily lives. We've come up with a few ideas we think you might find enticing, wether you're a busy woman who wants to stay online and stay organized or an adventurous spirit who likes to travel and share photos & videos with your friends and family.
Over the next 3 weeks ultramobilelife.com will share with you our UMPC concepts and how we came up with them. Stick around!

The first UMPC concept I want to introduce goes by the name of The Executive. It's probably looks like the first thing you imagine when you think, "executive toy." It's small, it's sleek, it conveys a sense of affluence and if you carry it around you will certainly look important.

What you see here is what we're calling The Modular UMPC. It looks pretty good sitting all by itself, nice, small stylish, but the real power behind this UMPC is that a keyboard can snap onto it, or it can slide into a larger keyboard and display for a full-blown computing experience. This is a UMPC than can be added onto and expanded to satisfy your usage paradigm.

In keeping with the modular theme, today UML is introducing The Butler, an ultra mobile device that helps you manage your household. It's slim and unique form factor is perfectly suited for "hanging" around the house. This handy little device may soon become your closest companion, always with you wether you're watching a movie, making dinner, out grocery shopping, or getting your hair done.

On Tuesday, UML introduced a very manly UMPC concept for high-powered businessman and we promised the next one would be for the modern woman. The Walletino is just the UMPC to keep you connected with your friends and family while out on the town. Designed to look just like that wallet you have stuffed full of money and credit cards, it hides a little secret. Open it up to find a large, bright LCD screen and a fully functioning PC.
