VIDEO - CTitanic gaming on the OQO model 02
Written by Bjorn Stromberg

Not to be outdone by the WiBrain B1 UMPC, CTitanic has put together a video featuring two different games being played on his OQO model 02: Desperado and Quake II. Both games seem to run well on the OQO. I've never seen Desperado before, but it looks like a Western version of Baldur's Gate, could be fun! It's great to see so much interest in gaming on UMPCs, I'm still waiting for the first game designed to be played on a UMPC. That could really light a fire on the UMPC market.

My coworker (and budding filmmaker) Claire, has released the first episode of her UMDs for Dumplings series. This episode is about VIA's Green Computing Initiatives and what it means for you and your UMD. It's going to take a lot of effort from everyone to take care of our planet and VIA is determined to do it's part by making power efficient computing it's number one priority. Take a look at UMDs for Dumplings Episode I and let me and Claire know what you think.

VIDEO - Touch interface in your bathroom?
Written by Bjorn Stromberg

I caught this video on YouTube, CTitanic put it up today and it's pretty incredible. It's an interactive mirror that's got all kinds of computer powered goodies to help you out in the morning. Traffic updates, weather forecasts, and even a view to check to see if the back of your hair is ok. The best thing about the display is that it's touch based, but you don't have to actually rub your fingers all over your mirror to interact with it. This display is from Philips and I'm not sure how long it will be before it comes out, but it's great to see touch used in an innovative and intuitive way for more than just arranging photos or drawing pictures.

VIDEO - Rediscovered OQO model 02 unboxing video
Written by Bjorn Stromberg
Thursday, 27 December 2007

After a lengthy (it took a month) escapade where my computer caught on fire, they didn't have any replacement parts for my PC, and I had to strap the old parts of my beloved desktop to it's shiny new body, I have unearthed a video that I believed to have been lost to the ravages of time. This is the original OQO model 02 unboxing video I did that slipped between the cracks. I still don't know why this video did not want to be uploaded, but after much kicking, screaming and gnashing of teeth, I have squeezed this video up into the intertubes and onto YouTube and now it's here for your viewing pleasure.

I have to say, unboxing the OQO model 02 is a rare treat. Even though it was a long time ago when I unboxed this, it felt like Christmas. The beautiful all-black packaging, the minimalistic styling, everything came together like I was back under the Christmas tree with my family on Christmas morning tearing off the wrapping paper on that one gift that I really, really wanted. Looking back, this video was really a momentous occasion for me, this little UMPC has been such a valuable part of my life this year. When I think about it, I can't imagine how I was getting along without it.

VIDEO - Chippy handles the Wibrain again
Written by Bjorn Stromberg

Chippy does another video with the WiBrain B1, this time around he goes through what it's like to operate this UMPC. He shows off how impressive this UMPC is when going into and coming out of standby. In just two or three seconds it's in standby and you can pop it in your bag and two or three seconds to come out of standby and be ready to use. Once you start getting into the habit of putting your UMPC into standby you'll appreciate just how much more battery life you will get and how well designed these new devices are. When I was working with my desktops a few years ago I used to dread accidentally hitting the power button and putting it into standby because the PC just wouldn't come out of standby. I'd have to unplug the machine and boot it up fresh again. We've come a long ways in the land of windows and ACPI specifications. Have a look at the WiBrain B1, it's really a great value UMPC at only $699.
