While a bunch of you are out drooling over the UMPCs being uncovered at CeBIT, my colleague was here at the office oohing and aahing over this beautiful little machine from Samsung. This is the Samsung Anycall SPH-P9200, also known as the Deluxe MITs, an entirely new form factor that solves a lot of the dilemmas that UMPCs are facing. It's got a full size keyboard folds in half and also acts as a touchpad. Additionally, this little beauty comes with WiBRO, HSDPA and Wifi built-in for a wide range of connectivity.
It's got a sweet 1024x600 touchscreen and it also does double duty as a phone, which let's it run under the Samsung Anycall brand. We've been seeing this device floating around at tradeshows, but I believe the UMPC in this video is a full production model and that it's beginning to find it's way into consumers' hands in Korea as we speak. Check out the video for all the juicy deets.

I agree that is the best mobile computer thus far, better than any of the UMPC's and MID's I've seen posted from CES 2008. But can we buy them here in the US? I know Korea is way more advanced than the US on Wireless with Wimax but I would buy that computer regarless if I could use the wireless becuase it looks like a pocket size computer when folded and it is the only one with a touch type keyboard! I think it is so dumb for the other computer companies to design UMPC running full windows and expect people to buy them and input with your thumbs? or a pen? NOT!

Can you confirm two things about that system for me...
1. Is the screen res 1024x600 as you have said in you post or 800x480 as I have heard all along by those who haven't actually touched one?
2. Is the phone support only VOIP or can it do GSM voice with its HSDPA radio. If GSM as well how is the battery life if used as a phone and does it require using windows XP to make the call or does it have secondary OS and processor for that (as in the HTC Shift, DualCor et. al)
Thanks,

I can confirm that it's definitely 1024x600. As to the calling functions, I don't have all the information for that so I'm not entirely how it works yet. I'll make a post as soon as I find out more about it.

Bjorn,
Is there any way to buy an unlocked SPH P2900 if I am in the US? I think this is a fantastic design. The lack of a true touch type keyboard has made me uninterested in UMPC's til now.

We need more UMPC's like that! It's good to see I am not alone with wanting a basic touch type keyboard. I think all the other UMPC's thumb input is partly the cause of their weak sales.
